LETTING GO POEM

LETTING GO TAKES LOVETo let go does not mean to stop caring,
it means I can't do it for someone else.
To let go is not to cut myself off,
   it's the realization I can't control another.
To let go is not to enable,
but allow learning from natural consequences.
To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means
the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to try to change or blame another,
it's to make the most of myself.
To let go is not to care for,
   but to care about.
To let go is not to fix,
   but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their destinies.
To let go is not to be protective,
it's to permit another to face reality.
To let go is not to deny,
   but to accept.
To let go is not to nag, scold or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires,
but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
To let go is not to criticize or regulate anybody,
but to try to become what I dream I can be.
To let go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live for the future.
To let go is to fear less and love more

and To let go and to let God, is to find peace !
Remember: The time to love is short

Eat, Pray, Love

I recently watched a film called Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts.  It is one of the best films I have watched.  It is a beautiful story about a woman's search for everything, travelling across Italy, Indonesia and India following her divorce from her husband.  She sets out on a path to find herself.  She spent 4 months in Italy eating and enjoying life (Eay)  She spent 4 months in India finding her spirituality (Pray) and then ended up in Indonesia to find a balance of the two and found love (Love)  At the end of the film the following is said and I think it is beautiful -

In the end I have come to believe in something called the physics of the quest.  A force of nature gathered by law is as real as the law of gravity.  The rules of the quest go like this....................  If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter old resentments and set off on a truth seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared most of all to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself then the truth will not be held from you.

Goodbye in Dubai

I had to say goodbye to all my yogi friends this week as I am  returning to the UK.  I have met some amazing people over the past few months and I am very sorry to have to leave them.  It is such a rewarding feeling watching each person in my classes improve physically, mentally and emotionally week by week.  I got to meet some truly kind hearted and inspirational people who taught me so much and helped so much with my teaching.
I will miss everyone but, as promised, I will be back very soon and we will all be back trying to master our Crane poses :-)

Pilates!

I have recently decided to add on another course to my studies - Pilates!!!  It seems to be really big over here in Dubai so I am curious to see if it has as many amazing benefits that Yoga brings to the body and mind. I am currently studying for my Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer City and Guilds REPS Level 3 status and once this is completed, which will be within the next few months,  I can then go on to complete my Pilates qualification. I believe you should never stop learning and expanding your boundaries, both physically and mentally, so I can't wait to start on the Pilates course!

Physics of the Quest!

This is a little saying I heard from the film Eat, Pray, Love!  It's one of my favourite films and I just love the following words that are said in the film -

In the end I have come to believe in the physics of the quest. A force of nature gathered by law is as real as the law of gravity. The rules of the quest of physics goes like this ...........................

If your brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter old resentments, and set off on a truth seeking journey, either externally or internally and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a healer and if you are prepared most of all to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be held from you.

YOGA CLASSES

I will also be holding classes monday 21st march , saturday 26th march and monday 28th march at core direction studio at 8.30pm . The location is Dubai marina mall , located on the marina level of the waves building by damac next to the marina sail building. http://www.coredirection.com/ .

SPIRITUAL YOGA

The power yoga in which i teach is not just simply a body and fitness workout , i always try to bring the body and mind together , to connect with ourselfs , our emotions , thoughts and feelings . I believe yoga is also a spiritual pratice , it can help and heal both the body and mind . Within our bodies are energy points named chakras , sometimes these can become blocked by holding in all our feelings ,  personal past emotions and experiences within our bodies ,  these burried emotions are so unhealthy for the body and mind ,brininging the body and mind out of balance and out of alignement.  Emotions such as anger , grief , hurt and fear from our past  can maninfest and damage our health causing digestive problems , anxiety , stress , depression , headaches and many other health issues and when we are in pain and experience these emotions  we can become self centred , less caring and selfish towards others , through yoga we can unblock these blockages and bring healing to ourselves leading us to become more self less , kind , gartefull , and sympathetic to the pain and welfare of others and bringing our body and minds back into alignement and to become more  balanced . Its so important to take care of our bodies through exercise and yoga and more important to find a good sincere teacher to help you along the way .    Namaste x lucy x

MY TOP TIPS!

It has been proven that yoga can help you both mentally and physically. Sometimes we don't always feel our best and  become depressed and overwhelmed by life and when that happens exercise is the last thing on our minds. I cannot stress enough how important yoga is to help improve your mood, well-being and restoring your health. When we exercise we give off feel good chemicals, the brain releases positive chemicals called neurotransmitters and endorphins which make you feel happier.  When we are sad or depressed the immune system becomes low and has a major impact on your health, you become more at risk to diseases and colds etc. So here are a few of my tips to help you feel better and improve your mood and cope with everyday life stresses.  Stick with me and you will learn to stay fit, happy and healthy and love the body you have!

1 - THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS - ( read my previous blog called THE SECRET) Positive thinking boosts your immune system, every time you think something bad, something negative, immediately replace it with something good, something positive.  For example, instead of thinking I'll never have the body I wish for, change it for I love my body and I respect my body and will nourish my body with healthy food and exercise.
When you are feeling bad did you know you can change it in a instant?  Do the following -

2 - MUSIC - Put on a beautiful piece of music or your favourate song.  Music can help uplift your mood and get you in the mood for exercise, sing and dance to the music, it really will change your emotions for the better.

3 - THOUGHTS - Think of something beautiful, think of a baby or someone you truely love and dwell on that, really keep that thought in your mind and block everything out but that thought.  I guarantee you will start to feel good instantly.

4 - MAKE A LIST - Make a list and keep it with you, listing all of the things in your life you are grateful for - having a healthy body and healthy family and friends.

5 - EAT WELL - Never deprive yourself of food.  Eat little and often, nourish your body with lots of nutritious foods.  These foods act like a medicine to your body and heal your body. Foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, quiona, brown rice, salads and lentils. For snacks I love cereal bars which contain dried  fruit and nuts and for a treat I love dark chocolate and vegan chocolate ice cream.  Don't beat yourself up if you over indulge the odd day with not so good foods, it's not the end of the world, so long  as most of the time you try to eat healthily.

6 - LOVE YOURSELF - Be kind to yourself and your body.  Love yourself for who you are. Treat yourself this way and others will treat you the same.

7 - START SMALL - If going to the gym seems too overwhelming to start with then go for a power walk or do some gentle stretching at home first and build yourself up slowly. Come to my yoga class and afterwards you will never have felt so good!

8 - FRESH AIR - Try walking to work or the shops instead of taking the car, use the stairs instead of the lift, sit outside during your lunch break.  It is really important to spend time outdoors even if its only for a few minutes a day.  An active lifestyle will quickly get you back into regular workouts.

9 - BE SOCIAL - Call your friends and family for a chat, look at old photos, it has been proven to make people feel happier.

10 - STICK WITH IT - Stick with your workout or yoga class, never feel disheartened if you get tired or out of breath or your legs hurt, you will become stronger and stronger with time and patience and before you know it you will have a strong, toned, healthy and balanced body.   Love and hugs

THE SECRET!

For me, yoga has never been just about the body. It is about the mind as well, bringing the body and mind together. Improving not just our health through yoga but also our state of mind. If we are healthy and positive within our minds we will have a healthy, strong and balanced body. A close friend of mine once told me about The Secret.  I had been through quite a tough time in my life and was thinking very negatively about things, I couldn't understand why certain bad things had happened to me and how to break free from all the negativity within my mind.  My world had fallen apart and little did I know at the time, out of my greatest despair was to come the most greatest gifts. My friend gave me a dvd to watch called THE SECRET and it changed my life!  It changed my way of thinking , I began to think positively and the more positive I thought, the more positive situations there were coming into my life.
Yoga, something I'm so passionate about and love, became even more popular, more and more people wanted to take my classes and I believe my positiveness radiated out and this energy rubbed off onto my yogi clients. The Secret is all about the laws of attraction. The law of attraction is a law of nature, it is impersonal and it does not see good or bad things.  It is receiving your thoughts and reflecting back to you those thoughts as your life experience. The law of attraction simply gives you whatever it is your thinking about. You become your thoughts and the amazing thing is - you can control your thoughts, think well, think positive, think happy and think of love, abundance and gratitude and all this will be reflected right back at you. Whatever you want in life is yours if you apply the secret.  Happier thoughts lead to a happier biochemistry, a happier, healthier body. Negative thoughts and stress lower the immune system and have been shown to seriously degrade the body and the functioning of the brain, because it is our thoughts and emotions that are continuously reassembling, reorganizing and re-creating our body. Every unpleasant thought we have is literally like putting something bad in our bodies. You can change how you think and how you feel.  Be happy NOW, feel good NOW!
The knowledge of the secret has been given to you and what you do with it is entirely in your hands, the freedom of choice is yours. Please go and purchase the book - The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

Lucy

Yogi tea!

I simply have to tell everyone about Yogi herbal teas! You can purchase them from the Organic Foods and Cafe store in the Dubai mall.  They have an amazing selection to choose from. Everything from Purely Peppermint which aids in calming the digestive system and soothing indigestion to Echinacea Immune Support, which helps boost the immune system (my favourite! )  Also Honey and Lemon Throat Comfort which is wonderful for soothing a sore throat and the lemon helps to cleanse the body therefore helping to detox the body. There is also Ginger tea which is great for the digestive system, as ginger helps with nausea and soothes inflamation within the stomach, combats motion sickness, dizziness, flatulence and even helps reduce the symptoms of the common cold. Green tea is another one of my favourites.  The Chinese have known about its medical benefits since the ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. Recent studies have shown it to contain a compound that  inhibits the growth of cancer cells and also to help lower cholesterol.
Yogi tea's also do a women's range specifically to help women! These include Woman's Energy tea which helps balance hormones, Woman's Moon Cycle tea which helps ease menstural cramps and pains.  Woman's Mother-to-be tea, supporting a healthy pregnancy.  Woman's Raspberry Leaf tea which strengthens the female reproductive system. There are so many to choose from and all made from organic natural herbs. The lovely thing about these teas and what makes them so special is every tea bag contains a little saying on the label when you open them! For example, the Immune Support tea I had this morning read 'Delight the world with your compassion, kindness and grace' and my Purely Peppermint tea read 'The universe is a stage, your mind dances with your body, guided by your heart'  .My favouate saying that I found in one of my tea's, and I keep it in my purse, read 'pratice compassion, kindness and caring'.

Yoga for kids!!

I recently had the pleasure of teaching yoga to a 6 year old boy. His Mum approached me and explained she thought it would really help with improving his concentration and balance. I was a little nervous at first as I have not much previous experience with children, but he was adorable and we had such good fun.  Not once did he lose his concentration or focus and performed the poses wonderfully! His Mum was so proud of him and I was so pleased and honoured I could help in that way.
Yoga is amazing for children, not only improving there balance, flexibility, co-ordination and strength but also it helps with building their confidence.  If we become strong and centred in a pose it helps us become strong and confident in everyday life and life situations. Children have so much pressure on them from school and fitting in with other children, etc., and yoga can help children cope with these pressures and help build there self esteem.
I was so touched that the little boy's Mum asked me to do such a thing for her son. If I ever one day have my own children I will definately do the same for them.

Live one day at a time!

A to ZEN of life!!

Avoid negative sources, people, places and habits
Believe in yourself
Consider things from every angle
Don,t give up and don,t give in
Everything you are looking for lies behind the mask you wear
Family and friends are hidden treasures
Give more than you planned too
Hang onto your dreams
If opportunity does,nt knock, build a door
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it
Keep trying no matter how hard it seems
Love yourself
Make it happen
Never lie, steal or cheat
Open your arms to change but don,t let go of your values
Pratice makes perfect
Quality not quantity in all you do
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer
Stop procrastinating
Take control of your own destiny
Understand yourself in order to better understand others
Visualise it
When you lose, don,t lose the lesson
Xcellence in all your efforts
You are unique, nothing can replace you
Zero in on your target and go for it!

This was brought for me recently as a poster by a close friend of mine. I plan on framing it and placing it in my yoga studio back in the Uk!

Yoga for Sciatica

Many people often suffer from sciatica, which is a painful condition affecting the lower back and behind the thigh, travelling down to behind the knee area. It is a result of irritation of the sciatic nerve which is the largest nerve within the body and begins from the nerve roots in the lumber spinal cord in the lower back. Through yoga we can help heal and ease the pain of sciatica, by strengthening the lower back muscles through specific poses and boosting circulation in that area. I would recommend the following poses to pratice daily.

LOCUST POSE - This pose will strengthen the lower back muscles and boost circulation in the lower back area, the spinal cord receives fresh blood and nutrients. Simply lie on your tummy, bring your legs together and arms out stretched in front of you. Inhale and lift the chest and legs off the floor so all the weight is on your abdominal.  Hold for 3-5 breaths then lower and repeat a further 4-5 times.

CHILDS POSE - Kneel on the floor with the knees wide apart, the wider the knees, the deeper the stretch. Bring the big toes together and sit the buttocks back on the heels. Keep the spine long and lengthened and outstretch the arms forwards, resting the hands and the forehead on the floor. Stay here for 10 breaths.
Not only will this pose help to ease sciatic pain  by stretching the lower back muscles but it also stretches out the lungs and opens tight shoulder joints.

BRIDGE POSE - Lie on the floor and bring the feet up close to the hips, hip distance apart and feet parallel. Lengthen the neck, keeping the gaze forward, never look left or right whilst in this pose to ensure the neck stays in line with the spine. Keep the heels and hands pressed down into the floor tucking the chin slightly in. Engage the core muscles then lift the pelvis off the floor, continue to lift the spine, vertabrae by vertabrae, off the floor. Engage the glutes keeping the knees in line with the ankles. Stay here for 5 breaths then lower the spine slowly and repeat
5 -10 times.

DOWN DOG - Come onto your hands and knees, place your knees hip distance apart, hands shoulder width apart spreading the fingers wide.  Lift your knees away from the floor, gently push back into the heels, lifting up through the hips and keeping the back flat, relaxing the head and shoulders. Stay for 10 breaths and repeat.

PIGEON POSE - This beautiful pose stretches and strengthens the lower back and also the entire vertebral column. It also helps regulate hormonal secretions paticually those of the thyroid. From Down Dog pose bring the left leg forward to place the foot behind the right hand. Slide the right leg back behind you as you lower your hips to the floor, your buttock and outer left thigh will be resting on the floor. For a deeper stretch draw your chest down towards the floor resting your forehead on the back of your hands. Hold and breath for 10 breaths.

Remember to continue these poses even when symptoms dissapear to ensure the spine and back stay strong and healthy. Many of these poses are demonstrated on my website.

TIP!  Just breathe! The breath is our most important part of yoga, if we can breathe we can do yoga! When we become stressed or angry or anxious it effects our breathing immediately. It becomes shallow and erratic and we hold on to the breath bringing more tension and stress to the body. Next time we feel ourselves becoming tense or stressed in all our day to day and life experiences, or when we re experiencing painful events try and remember to come back to your breath.  Take a deep breath and notice immediately how calm is restored to the body and mind. It is a fact our breath can help regulate pain which is why women who become pregnant are taught how to breathe to prepare them for child birth. The breath helps to calm our body and emotions.
So next time your in a stressful situation whether it be someone arguing with you or hearing bad news on the television, simply turn the television off, block out the person who is shouting at you.  Chances are the argument isn't really that important anyway and simply breathe!
Think well, stay positive and pratice kindness daily.

Valentine's Day

I had an amazing experience last week during one of my classes.  It's so nice when someone new joins my classes, especially if they have never experienced yoga before and I've come to realise that yoga always leaves you with such an open heart afterwards, therefore, I always stress to everyone after class that when they go home afterwards to ensure loved ones, friends and family are very gentle towards them for a while.  You become so open and vunerable and this is because yoga helps open your chakras, releases any blockages within the body.  This is a good thing and should be embraced.  So last week after class one of my fellow yogis approached me very concerned and asked me why during a quite challenging pose named THE WHEEL (this can be seen on my yoga page) they were brought to tears.  This is what I call an emotional release.  This particular pose completely opens the chest and heart area and helps release any blockages within the heart.  For someone to experience this after it being their first ever yoga session is amazing and fills me with such warmth.  I went on to explain that they should not feel alarmed, in fact embrace it and that no one will judge and it is completely normal.  Everyone experiences different sensations during yoga, everyone is in their own zone.  That person left my class with an open heart and that makes me so so happy!
Happy Valentine's Day!
